History/Overview
The 2020 Land Rover Defender is an all-new model for the British company, borrowing a well-known name from the brand's past.
Available Trims
Land Rover offers the Defender 110 in S, SE, HSE and X trims. S uses a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that wears the P300 label, while the top three variants get a 3.0L mild hybrid V6 called P400. Both engines come with an eight-speed transmission and 4WD.

HSE models gain a panoramic sunroof, trim-specific wheels, an extended leather interior, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, 18-way heated and ventilated front seats, Windsor leather upholstery, and adaptive cruise control.
Defender X gets a black contrast roof and hood, satin chrome exterior accents, recovery hooks, premium cabin lighting, 120-volt power outlets in the cargo area, steel-cut Windsor leather seat upholstery, heated rear seats, metal pedals, lighted treadplates, a 14-speaker stereo, a head-up display, terrain response 2, configurable terrain response, all-terrain progress control, and an electronic active differential.
Key Options
Land Rover's options include a couple of off-road packages, and a towing package.
A comfort and convenience group upgrades the sound system, premium cabin lighting, and a console refrigerator. A cold climate option adds a heated windshield and washer jets, and headlight power washers.
To lower-end trims, the driver assist pack brings adaptive cruise, clear exit monitor and a rear traffic monitor.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Land Rover hadn't published fuel consumption estimates for the 2020 Defender.
Competition
There are a lot of SUVs to choose from, but the Land Rover Defender goes for a more rough-and-ready crowd than most. Other off-roadable utilities are the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Toyota 4Runner.
